Terrain Biennial is a grassroots public art festival that brings artists and neighbors together to put public art on the front lawns (and porches, windows, and rooftops, too!) of neighborhoods across the world.
Artists and curators collaborated with hosts to produce public art installations (think sculptures, paintings, projections, flags, yarn art, you name it!) outside their homes (and other unexpected spots!).
This year, artists responded to the theme mycelium connection to honor and expand Terrain’s mission of making unexpected, yet vital, human and environmental connections.
Mycelium is a thriving underground network of fungal threads, vital to many natural ecosystems. Despite its enormous geographical span, it remains invisible to most, subversively springing up from the most unexpected cracks and shadows. We ask ourselves, who and what has been overlooked, and why?
From October 1 – November 15, the projects are on display for anyone who walks, rolls, skips or wanders by to discover!
Layers of Identity is a collaborative public art project that unites queer individuals to explore the diverse facets of identity through creative installations. This project invites participants to collaborate on art pieces that reflect their unique experiences. These installations, displayed in public spaces, serve as a visual representation of the complex layers within the queer community. By fostering dialogue and understanding, Layers of Identity not only celebrates the richness of queer identity but also promotes inclusivity and belonging among people of all backgrounds. Through art, this project creates a platform for individual and shared expression.
